While the term Kutani reminds us of porcelain wares elaborately decorated with several different vivid colours, Inoue Masako creates white porcelain works with designs mainly in black. Using a technique called sgraffito, or kakiotoshi in Japanese, Inoue skillfully depicts animated designs of birds and animals which make her works characteristic and different from the rest.
