Mikawachi is home to Hirado ware which was actively exported to Europe and fascinated the West in 19th century (see also Field trip to Mikawachi). Imamura Takamitsu's sutudio, Koungama, is located in this small porcelain producing village where his ancestors built kilns some 400 years ago.
Ayatakado interviews with Imamura Takamitsu, a Mikawachi ceramicist who creates new forms of expressions with his excellent skills of sometsuke underglaze blue painting as well as revives and preserves traditional techniques that Mikawachi developed through its long porcelain production history.
